Our family has been eating organically and supporting sustainable agriculture for years. However, when our niece needed a new mattress in 2006, we discovered that harmful chemicals are often used in the manufacturing of mattresses. We wanted dust mite resistant and chemical free bedding for our niece, and the organic bedding industry was our only option. Now, organic bedding is what we provide for our entire family — and yours.
We've taken what we've learned and built a family business,
The EverGreen™ Home, offering the finest organic products for every room in the house. We offer natural latex and Pure Grow Wool™ mattresses quilted to organic cotton. We have a full Adult Bedroom line, as well as an Organic Nursery division. Both product lines offer a variety of organic blankets, pillows, and comforters. We have a wonderful collection of Kitchen and Bath items made of organic Romanian hemp. Please check out the selections in our Organic Clothing line, offering tee-shirts in fabulous colors made with natural dyes.
The EverGreen™ Home also offers organic products for the garden. We have a variety of organic ornamental mixes and organic vegetable seeds for our clients with "green" thumbs!
We are also very excited to offer indulgences like our Organic Coffee & Green Teas: Japanese Green Tea for cooking, our Highest-Grade Organic Japanese Green Tea for sipping, and excellent coffee blends that are USDA Organic as well as Fair Trade.
All products sold by The EverGreen™ Home are approved by recognized third party organic certifiers, and meet the strict organic standards of SKAL, COAE, QC&I, the USDA, Eco-Inspect S.R.L., and Fair Trade. The wool used in our products follows the stringent protocol of the standards for Pure Grow Wool™. Our staff also conducts ongoing research to ensure that best practices in organic manufacturing are always followed in the production of our products. Additional research into these production practices has been conducted by The Green Mother™.
Manufacturers that are selected to produce products for The EverGreen™ Home must meet very specific labor and environmental standards. The manufacturers' labor force must be treated with respect, be paid fair wages, be given access to medical benefits, and employees must be given equal opportunities for advancement. For verification that our manufacturers are meeting our labor standards, we require them to produce specific written documentation on their labor practices, and manufacturers are also required to produce proof of Fair Trade certifications where applicable. For example, we selected our coffee supplier because of the quality of their coffee beans and their ability to produce documentation that they purchase their beans using Fair Trade practices. Our coffee supplier does not purchase our coffee beans from a brokerage floor. Our supplier only purchases our beans from select cooperatives participating in Fair Trade programs. In addition, we selected our toy manufacturer because they exemplify Fair Trade principles. A fair price is paid to all of the workers in their production chain. This includes their cotton growers and weavers.
Our Manufacturers must also demonstrate that they are manufacturing their products under "Responsible Care" guidelines, whereby they are committed to dealing responsibly with the environment, and with the health of the general public. For verification that our manufacturers are meeting our environmental standards, we require that they produce proof of their certifications for organic production. Our staff also conducts independent research into the environmental impact of our suppliers. For example, our latex supplier received the Responsible Care Prize, awarded them by the Belgian Chemical Industry in 2005. In addition, this supplier has committed itself in 2003 to practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions according to the Kyoto Protocol. Similarly, our hemp supplier, only uses natural plant-based dyes for its products. These natural dyes have been developed with the assistance of an eco-botanist with extensive experience in developing natural pigments. They are committed to only using eco-friendly mordants, blue stone, alum, salt, and vinegar to fix their dyes.
We also offer homeowners Green Consulting services for those interested in eco-conscious renovations and/or interior design.
